TERRY BIGT WILLIAMS

Terry “Big T” Williams was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi. He spent his early years on a plantation in Farrell, Mississippi, hearing stories about Muddy Waters attending Sunday picnics in his grandmother’s yard. These influences, as well as the music he was hearing on the radio by musicians such as B.B. King, had an impact on him. At nine, Big T’s father gave him a guitar.

Early on, Terry “Big T” Williams was tutored with blues guitar legend Johnnie Billington who taught Big T the basics and then he learned the rest on the road with blues bands like the Jelly Roll Kings, Welsey Jefferson Band, Little Jeno's All-Stars and the Stone Gas Band.

Through the years he has also sat in with or backed musicians like Albert King, Bobby "Blue" Bland, CeDell Davis, Robert Belfour, Big George Brock, Nora Jean Bruso and Jimbo Mathus.

Terry who is the Godson of famed bluesman Big Jack Johnson is the real deal. He has lived more blues than a dozen bluesmen. His biggest influence is probably Big Jack Johnson, who Big T played with for several years in the Delta and on tour.

His recorded legacy includes sessions with blues legends Big Jack Johnson and Lonnie Pitchford as well as albums under his own name, including Meet me in the Cotton Field (2007) which was featured on XM Satellite Radio's Bluesville.  He has recorded six CDs.

Terry "Big T" Williams was named 2009 Blues Guitar Player of the Year by the West Coast Blues Society in California, which also enshrined him into their Hall of Fame.

Terry “Big T” Williams has performed at numerous blues festivals, including the Chicago Blues Festival, the Bumbershoot Festival in Seattle, Washington and the Russell City Blues Festival in Oakland, California and the Sunflower River Festival, Clarksdale, Mississippi and at the Pigtown Festival in Baltimore, Maryland.

He records, teaches blues education and performs at festivals, events, clubs and private parties. He is available to perform nationally and internationally.
